Ray Stevenson has died at the age of 58.
The Northern Irish actor, best known for his roles in ‘King Arthur’, ‘The Punisher’, ‘RRR’ and ‘Thor’, died in Italy on Sunday, days before his 59th birthday.
His representatives confirmed the news to multiple media outlets, but did not disclose the cause of death.
The Lisburne-born star developed a passion for acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theater School and made her film debut opposite Helena Bonham Carter in the 1998 film The Theory of Flight.
He landed a key role as Dagonette in 2004’s King Arthur and starred in Outpost four years later.
That same year, Stevenson starred as vigilante Frank Castle in the Punisher reboot, Punisher: War Zone, alongside Wayne Knight, Dominic West, and Colin Salmon.
In 2011, he made his Thor series debut as Volstagg, a member of Thor’s best friend Warriors Three.
Besides Chris Hemsworth, the cast also includes Idris Elba, Rene Russo, Anthony Hopkins and Jamie Alexander.
He reprized the role in the 2013 sequel The Dark World and again in 2017’s Ragnarok.
Throughout his fulfilling career, Stevenson has appeared in Kill the Irishman, The Other Guys, The Book of Eli, The Transporter and the Divergent series. Did.
Most recently, he played Governor Scott Buxton in the Oscar-winning RRR.
Elsewhere, the late actor shone on the small screen with cameos in Holby City and The Building before claiming a long-term role as Titus Pullo in Rome.
He was nominated for a Saturn Award for his role as Isaac Sirco in Dexter, then helmed the screen in Black Sails and Star Wars Rebels.
One of his final roles will be Ahsoka claiming the role of Baylan Skoll in the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series.
The program will be released in August this year.
“I think what surprised me was the vision and the complexity and the novelty that was given to this,” he recently told Collider about the project.
“A new scale, yes Ahsoka has a scale, and everyone involved feels like this scale has been dusted with a little fairy dust.
“I remember walking around the set and wondering who designed this.” And everyone brought their own best game. The costume was a work of art. “
