Over the past few weeks, ITV’s flagship show, This Morning, has been in the headlines. Media attention began to gravitate when so-called best friends Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were revealed to be in the middle of a feud.

What followed was a week of painfully awkward moments between the two on the show. The drama seemed too much for Philip, who also faces the imprisonment of his brother. After more than 20 years, Philippe announced on Saturday, May 20, that he was leaving This Morning with immediate effect.

Beginning in 1988, “This Morning” has seen many presenters come and go over the years. But who were they and why did they leave?

Husband and wife Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan were the original hosts of This Morning, serving from 1988 to 2001. Like Philip and Holly, they hosted the show every Monday through Thursday.

In 2001, Richard and Judy announced that they would wave goodbye to the This Morning couch. They had been approached by Channel 4 to produce a similar program in which she would be broadcast for an hour in the evening.

Channel 4’s Richard and Judy aired from 2001 to 2008. The couple then left the channel to host ‘Richard and Judy’s New Stand’ on UKTV, although the show itself only lasted him a year. Richard is now a regular host of Good Morning Britain, but Judy doesn’t like the limelight.
